International Sea Breeze Exercise Kicks Off in the United Kingdom

According to UATV: Starting July 14, 2023, the annual multinational Sea Breeze exercise is underway in the United Kingdom. The primary focus of this year’s drills is protecting civilian shipping and conducting mine countermeasure operations. More than 20 nations are participating, along with NATO’s Maritime Command, highlighting the critical role of international cooperation in maritime security.

Ukraine’s Navy is represented by five mine countermeasure vessels, including the minesweeper 'Henichesk,' which is taking part in a tactical group for the first time. This marks a significant milestone for Ukrainian naval forces, as mine countermeasures are essential to maintaining safety and stability in the region.

“For the Ukrainian team, clearing the sea of mines is a daily combat mission aimed at ensuring safety, freedom of civilian navigation, and the country’s economic resilience,” the Ukrainian Navy stated.

It is worth noting that the Black Sea 'grain corridor' has been operational for three years, and its security is vital to regional stability. The Sea Breeze exercise underscores the participating nations’ commitment to safeguarding civilian shipping and countering emerging threats in maritime waters.

The Significance of the Sea Breeze Exercise

Sea Breeze plays a key role in strengthening international security cooperation, especially amid growing maritime threats. Ukraine’s participation highlights the country’s contribution to stability in the Black Sea region, where shipping security has become increasingly urgent due to the geopolitical situation. It also demonstrates Ukraine’s readiness to engage actively in international initiatives aimed at protecting shared maritime interests.
