Distance learning in Ukraine will not be canceled: new rules for schools in the 2025/2026 academic year

According to inkorr.com: On September 1, 2025, over 3 million children in Ukraine will start a new academic year, both in classrooms and online. The academic period will last until June 30, 2026.

Distance learning as an important option

The First Deputy Prime Minister for Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov emphasized that distance learning will remain an important option for students.

“Distance learning will not be canceled. The safety of children is our top priority”
, he noted.

The possibility of distance learning

Throughout the 2025/2026 academic year, any school can implement distance learning. If there are at least five students in a class who require this form of education, the corresponding classes will be organized. Children who have become internally displaced persons will be able to continue their studies in their schools regardless of their place of residence.

Statistics and future plans

Currently, about 15% of students are studying remotely. However, approximately 160,000 students who studied online last year will return to in-person learning thanks to 15 underground schools. Ukraine is also actively developing the infrastructure of underground educational institutions, planning to open more than 200 such schools by the end of 2026.

Thus, Ukrainian schoolchildren are preparing for the new academic year, where distance learning remains a relevant and convenient way to obtain education, ensuring safety and comfort in the learning process. In these conditions, it is important for educational institutions to be able to respond flexibly to the needs of students and provide quality education regardless of circumstances.
