Ukrenergo received funds from Europe to protect power plants from drones.
The Ukrainian company 'Ukrenergo' received 86 million euros from the European Investment Bank. According to the company, these funds will be used for the construction of anti-drone protection at key substations of the energy system.
'We are very grateful to our partners for their continued support. Protecting critical equipment at our substations is much more important given the Russian attacks on the energy system. The projects already implemented have proven their effectiveness, especially during the recent missile and drone attacks in November-December. The construction of protection is ongoing. The more substations we manage to protect, the more resilient the Ukrainian energy system will be and the lower the risk of blackouts for consumers,' said Oleksiy Brecht, acting chairman of the board of NEC 'Ukrenergo'.
The Vice President of the EIB, Teresa Rybinska, noted in turn: 'The investment of 86 million euros is an important step towards strengthening Ukraine's energy infrastructure in the face of ongoing military threats. We support 'Ukrenergo' in the construction of anti-drone shelters to ensure stable electricity supply across the country for both civilians and businesses. The EIB remains a loyal partner to Ukraine and, together with its partners in the EU, is working on the restoration and modernization of important infrastructure, especially in the energy sector, which is key to everyday life, economic stability, and the country's recovery.'
In total, since the beginning of the full-scale war, the European Investment Bank has provided 'Ukrenergo' with credit support amounting to 136 million euros.
