UNHCR records sharp increase in evacuations from frontline areas of Ukraine.
According to inkorr.com: The UN Refugee Agency has recorded an increase in the number of citizens evacuating or moving from frontline territories in Ukraine. This was stated by UNHCR Representative in Ukraine Karolina Lindholm Billing in an interview with Ukrinform.
Statistics and dynamics of displacements
According to the agency's information, about 3.7 million people remain internally displaced in Ukraine, while approximately 5.6 million Ukrainians have refugee status. Since the beginning of 2024, there has been an increase in the number of those evacuating or changing their place of residence due to danger. Particularly active displacements began at the start of this year. Since the beginning of 2025, 190 thousand Ukrainians have become internally displaced persons from frontline areas of Donetsk, Kharkiv, and Sumy regions.
Vulnerable population group
UNHCR noted that among those evacuated, the most vulnerable groups of the population predominate, including elderly people, persons with limited mobility or disabilities, as well as people facing material difficulties. These categories of citizens often find themselves in dangerous conditions due to their inability to leave the risk zone quickly.
The increase in the number of evacuees and displaced persons from frontline territories is a worrying sign indicating the escalation of the humanitarian crisis in the region and the intensification of conflict. The issue of refugees remains relevant, and the international community must find effective solutions to support those forced to leave their homes due to violence and danger.
