A number of Telegram channels of Russian propagandists have been blocked in Europe.
Users in Europe no longer have access to the Telegram channels of some Russian propaganda media. This is reported by DW.
When European users try to open propagandist channels, such as RIA 'Novosti', 'Izvestia', 'Rossiyskaya Gazeta', as well as the television channels Russia Today, 'Rossiya 1', 'Channel One' and 'NTV', a message appears: 'This channel is unavailable as it violated local legislation'.
Such problems have been experienced by users from Latvia, Lithuania, Germany, the Netherlands, and France. RIA 'Novosti' reports citing its correspondents that the agency's channel is also not opening in Poland, Belgium, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Greece, and Italy.
Ban by the EU
According to RIA 'Novosti', in mid-May 2024, the EU Council banned the broadcasting of four Russian media outlets that are propagandistic and support Russian propaganda and the war against Ukraine.
The banned outlets include RIA 'Novosti', 'Izvestia', 'Rossiyskaya Gazeta', and the internet portal 'Voice of Europe', which is linked to Viktor Medvedchuk and located in the Czech Republic.
All these propaganda media are under the direct or indirect control of the Russian Federation.
The EU Council clarified that the restrictions will not hinder the media and their employees from carrying out any activities, except for broadcasting, on the territory of the European Union.
It is worth noting that in Moldova, the messenger Telegram has blocked the channels of fugitive oligarch Ilan Shor and his associates.
Similarly, the messenger Telegram has blocked several Ukrainian official chatbots, including 'The Main Intelligence Bot'.
