Restoration of the Oak Doors at Odesa’s Kleiman Building
According to Novyny.live: In Odesa, the restoration of the oak doors at the Kleiman Building—located at the corner of 5 Lanzheronivska Street and 1 Italiska Street—has been completed. Craftsmen from the workshop 'Thousand Doors' restored the doors to their original appearance, including the recreation of decorative elements that are a vital part of this architectural landmark’s historical heritage.
The restoration work on the oak doors involved several stages, including:
- refurbishing the hinges;
- installing a door closer and an electronic mortise lock;
- replacing the glass.
Thanks to these efforts, the entrance doors have regained their former look, meeting architectural standards and aesthetic requirements.
History and Significance of the Kleiman Building
The Kleiman Building is associated with the renowned architect Heorhiy Toricelli. The building was remodeled in 1885, likely under the direction of Davyd Mazyrov. Over the years, the building housed consulates, a telegraph station, and various insurance and commercial offices, underscoring its important role in the city’s life.
Beyond the Kleiman Building doors, Odesa has also completed the restoration of the antique entrance doors at the Greenberg Apartment Building, constructed in 1902. Additionally, restoration recently finished on the entrance doors of a 19th-century building, and doors were also restored at the Petalos Building, a mid-19th-century landmark.
These projects highlight the importance of preserving Odesa’s architectural heritage and the dedication of restoration specialists working to revive historic structures. Such restoration efforts not only safeguard cultural heritage but also enhance the city’s aesthetic appeal.
The restoration of the Kleiman Building’s oak doors is part of a broader initiative to preserve Odesa’s historic buildings, emphasizing the value of cultural heritage for the local community. These restoration projects do more than maintain architectural features—they also boost tourism by attracting visitors interested in the city’s history and culture. The work of restorers helps preserve Odesa’s unique architectural landscape for future generations.
