In one of the countries, Russians are now prohibited from purchasing real estate: the reason has been named.
The Finnish parliament has decided to prohibit Russians from purchasing real estate in the country due to threats to national security. Minister of Defense Antti Häkkänen stated that this decision is aimed at strengthening national security and sends a clear message about the inadmissibility of destabilizing Finland.
The decision to ban real estate purchases in Finland by Russians was made in September 2024. The ban applies not only to Russians but also to citizens of other states that pose a threat to Finland's national security due to violations of territorial integrity and sovereignty of other countries.
Finland also plans to adopt a law that will strengthen control over property that has already been purchased by Russians.
This decision is an important step towards strengthening Finland's security, as Russian troops are practicing scenarios of large-scale attacks on Northern European countries. To protect itself from such a threat, Finland will impose a ban on real estate purchases in the country by Russians and other aggressive countries. Thus, the authorities are trying to protect their national security and avoid destabilization of the country.
