Russia announced a move towards peace: what is known about the plans for the meeting between Trump and Zelensky.
According to ТСН: In the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, opinions were expressed regarding the possible end of hostilities. Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov believes that the parties have "truly come closer" to resolving the conflict.
As noted by the representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, the current date is important for negotiations.
"I think that December 25, 2025, will remain in all our memories as a landmark when we really approached a resolution. But it depends on us, on our work, on the political will of the other side, whether we can make the last push and reach an agreement," Ryabkov said in an interview with propagandist Olga Skabeeva.
Despite the optimistic statements about peace, the Russian diplomat could not refrain from accusing Kyiv and Western partners of a lack of desire to reach an agreement. Ryabkov claims that Ukraine and its European allies are allegedly trying to derail the process.
According to him, Kyiv and the "sponsors in Europe," who are not interested in agreements, have "doubled their efforts to torpedo it."
When it came to specific timelines for signing possible agreements or ceasefire, Ryabkov avoided giving a clear answer.
He emphasized that naming specific dates for resolving the situation is currently "inappropriate" and therefore, he will not announce any exact timelines.
Negotiation process
Let us recall that the negotiations to end the war in Ukraine have reached a critical stage. On December 28, US President Donald Trump is set to host Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at Mar-a-Lago, Florida, to discuss the final version of the peace plan.
According to Axios, the fact of this meeting indicates significant progress, as previously Trump had only agreed to personal negotiations under the condition of approaching a real agreement.
Negotiations between Ukraine and Russia are ongoing, and despite optimistic forecasts, real progress may depend on the parties' willingness to compromise. Recent events indicate that international diplomacy continues to seek ways to achieve peace in the region; however, the challenges remain significant.
