In Ukraine, the subsidy program for internally displaced persons has been expanded: who will be affected by the changes.
The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has expanded the project for providing housing subsidies to internally displaced persons. This was announced by Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal and the government representative in parliament Taras Melnychuk.
Displaced persons from any region of Ukraine will have the right to receive subsidies. Previously, the program was only in nine regions. The threshold for housing rent expenses, at which assistance from the state can be obtained, has been reduced from 30% to 20% of the family's total income.
Starting January 1, 2024, the program will come into effect and will provide partial rent compensation for forced displaced persons. The government has also introduced incentives for landlords who officially formalize rental agreements with internally displaced persons. They will be compensated for part of their tax expenses.
The amount of compensation will be determined based on the maximum rental cost set by the Pension Fund of Ukraine. However, it cannot exceed the monthly payment according to the rental agreement.
Renters of apartments will be able to become owners of them.
