A new fraudulent scheme with QR codes has appeared in Ukraine.

Ukrainian law enforcement warns about the spread of a new fraudulent scheme involving the placement of fake QR codes in public places. According to this scheme, scammers replace original QR codes on signs or stickers and deceive users out of money. People scanning these counterfeit codes end up on fake websites that resemble real services. Scammers may gain access to banking information and steal money.
To avoid falling into this trap, law enforcement recommends following these tips:
- Scan QR codes only from trusted sources.
- Avoid random stickers or advertising announcements.
- Before scanning, carefully inspect the sticker for signs of tampering, uneven edges, or unusual fonts.
- Use the link preview feature available on most smartphones.
- Pay attention to the website address after clicking – even slight differences in the domain can indicate fraud.
Additionally, three men posing as bank employees were detained in Poltava. They defrauded the mother of a fallen defender out of 3 million hryvnias. An investigation has been initiated regarding this fact.
A similar situation occurred in the Odessa region. A victim reported how scammers attempted to steal money from her account, posing as bank employees. The victim lost 3 million hryvnias.
It is worth noting that scammers also use social media and messengers to spread false information about changes in pension payment rules.
