Vatican has begun the canonization of Gaudí. Pope Francis issued a decree.


Pope Francis has granted the status of 'venerable servant of God' to Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí, marking the first step towards his canonization. The architect, known as the 'God's architect', created religious and secular buildings, such as the Basilica of Sagrada Familia, which attract many tourists to Barcelona. The Vatican comments on this decision, describing Gaudí as a person who sought to convey God through art.
The movement to declare Gaudí a saint has been ongoing for over 30 years. Catalan priest José Manuel Almuzara initially began gathering documents and wrote a biography of the architect, proving his dedication to the workers' cause and the church. Recent news from the Vatican shows that the Church is positively inclined towards this decision and has referred to Gaudí as a saint.
Antoni Gaudí was born in 1852 and died in 1926 after being hit by a tram. His most famous structure - the Basilica of Sagrada Familia - is still under construction, with plans to complete it by 2026.
