Elections in Ukraine are only possible after the war: what they say in the Rada.
The participation of military personnel in elections is only possible after the cessation of hostilities. Elections cannot be held without full guarantees of their security.
This was stated in the broadcast of 'Vecher.LIVE' by the MP from 'Servant of the People' Bohdan Kytsak.
What is the danger of elections during wartime
According to Kytsak, participation in voting implies the physical presence of military personnel at polling stations, and some of them will also have the right to run for government positions.
“We understand that part of our military personnel, after fair peace conditions are established for Ukraine and the lines of combat separation are completely frozen, will accordingly be elected to different levels of government”, said the MP.
The deputy emphasized that organizing elections without stability at the front is an extremely complex task. Under such circumstances, Russia could take advantage of the situation to destabilize.
It was previously reported that currently no draft law on elections after the truce is being prepared in the Verkhovna Rada. However, the new government needs to prepare for possible voting even during the war.
At the same time, the Central Election Commission explained whether it is possible to partially hold elections during wartime. Despite all desires, legislation does not provide for such an opportunity.
Conflict situations and military actions create serious obstacles for holding elections and involving military personnel in the political life process. It is necessary to clearly regulate voting conditions and allow military personnel to safely express their will after the war ends.Read also
