54 Injured, 18 Missing After Explosion at Qatar Gas Facility.
Incident at Ras Laffan
According to Espreso.tv: An explosion and subsequent fire broke out at the Barzan gas distribution plant during a production startup in the Ras Laffan industrial zone. Qatar's Ministry of Interior confirmed that 54 people were injured, while 18 others remain unaccounted for.
The blast was triggered by a technical failure at the site. Emergency response teams have since brought the resulting fire under control. According to the ministry, no hazardous leak was detected that could pose a risk to the surrounding population.
Search Efforts Underway for the Missing
Qatar's international search and rescue team is actively working to locate the missing individuals. Notably, on May 10, a liquefied natural gas tanker from Qatar transited the Strait of Hormuz, though this event is unrelated to the incident. Authorities are currently clarifying the circumstances and conducting an investigation into the explosion's root causes.
