From borscht to salad: how cabbage price tags change in Ukraine.
Vegetable prices in the Ukrainian market have risen significantly, experts report. Some types of cabbage have become almost three times more expensive compared to last year. Cauliflower, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, and Savoy cabbage are becoming increasingly popular.
White cabbage remains the sales leader, but the average cost has reached 21 UAH/kg, which is four times more than last year's price. Broccoli has become more expensive, up to 105 UAH/kg, and Savoy cabbage up to 35 UAH/kg.
Experts explain such a rise in prices by several factors, including adverse weather conditions, increased costs for energy and logistics, growing demand for healthy eating, and increased cabbage imports.
Despite the fact that white cabbage is still the market leader, the share of non-traditional types is growing and is 25%.
Experts predict a further increase in the variety of cabbage and a change in consumption structure in favor of more diverse types.
