Dismissal of Malyuk: Will There Be Enough Votes in the Rada for the Head of the SBU's Resignation.
According to ТСН: The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky met with the head of the SBU Vasyl Malyuk, discussing possible candidates for his successor. Malyuk himself announced his resignation following a publication, but the Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence did not support his dismissal. The discussion at the meeting raised many questions, however, Malyuk did not appear, and the vote did not take place, as only seven of the 15 committee members expressed support.
Possible Scenarios Regarding Malyuk's Resignation
Roman Kostenko noted that currently two scenarios are possible: the issue may be submitted to the Verkhovna Rada, and the final decision will be made in parliament. There are also rumors about the Servant of the People faction trying to re-vote on the dismissal at the committee level.
Kostenko, who voted against the dismissal, emphasized that the committee did not receive a clear explanation for the dismissal reasons, other than that Malyuk submitted a resignation. This raised the question of why he was decided to be removed if no one explained the reasons.
“There was no answer. Only one thing was said, that he submitted a resignation. We all remember the submission of such a resignation when negotiations were held, conditions were set. Thus, the resignation is not an argument when we know how it was written…”
Voting in the Verkhovna Rada
MP Marianna Bezuhla emphasized that the president has no right to dismiss the head of the SBU by decree, but can suspend him by transferring duties to another person. She pointed out that the issue will be considered in the session hall only when it becomes clear that there are enough votes for dismissal.
Personnel Changes in Parliament
Yaroslav Zheleznyak announced that the Servant of the People faction is removing all draft laws from the agenda due to a lack of votes. Tuesday will become a “personnel” day when votes are planned for the dismissal of several ministers, including Vasyl Malyuk.
- Dmytro Shmyhal — from the position of Minister of Defense,
- Mykhailo Fedorov — from the position of Minister of Digital Transformation,
- Vasyl Malyuk — from the position of Head of the Security Service of Ukraine.
Military Reaction
On January 3, military personnel and analysts openly expressed support for Vasyl Malyuk, emphasizing the importance of his work in wartime conditions.
Political Factors of the Resignation
Co-founder of the analytical project DeepState Roman Pohorilyi characterized the dismissal as one of the most sensitive losses for Ukraine's security during wartime, emphasizing the political influence on personnel decisions.
“...personnel decisions of such level during wartime complicate the work of people directly involved in countering the enemy…”
Latest News on the Dismissal
Sources report that tension arose between Zelensky and Malyuk due to the latter's desire to remain in office, as he emphasized the importance of completing certain operations. Subsequently, he announced his resignation but remained willing to work within the SBU system.
MP Oleksiy Honcharenko also noted that the National Security Committee recommended the Rada support Malyuk's resignation, and Yaroslav Zheleznyak added that the committee has already reconsidered its previous decision to ensure sufficient support for voting.
This situation with the dismissal of the head of the SBU reflects the complexity of the political climate in Ukraine, especially in wartime conditions. Many experts believe that personnel decisions can affect the state's ability to respond effectively to security challenges. The discussion of Malyuk's possible successor and the further actions of the Verkhovna Rada may prove crucial for stability in the field of national security.
