Updates to Ukraine's Military Mobilization Law

According to TSN.ua: Recent changes to Ukraine's mobilization legislation now permit eligible individuals to apply for or extend military service deferments through Administrative Service Centers (ASCs). This process, however, has been complicated by a significant technical issue: many applicants report that their updated status does not appear promptly in the official 'Reserve+' application after submitting their documents. This delay in confirmation has caused considerable anxiety among those awaiting official verification of their deferment status. The 'Reserve+' app is a key digital tool for managing military registration in Ukraine.

According to lawyer Vladyslav Derii, the standard processing time for a deferment request is between 7 and 15 days. He explained that individuals who file through an ASC must wait for this information to be manually updated in the 'Reserve+' system, a delay that can create additional stress for applicants seeking to confirm their legal standing.

Issues with Status Confirmation and Conscripts' Rights

Separately, there have been reports of Territorial Recruitment Centers (TRCs) and Social Protection offices demanding or confiscating mobile phones during visits. Lawyer Yurii Aivazian stressed that such actions cannot be grounds for denying a deferment, as only a commission within a TRC holds the authority to make such decisions.

TRC employees and police officers do not have the right to confiscate gadgets or prohibit their use.

While the updated mobilization law provides new avenues for managing deferments, its implementation is facing practical challenges. The lag in status updates within the 'Reserve+' app exacerbates stress for those navigating the process. It is crucial for relevant authorities to adhere strictly to the law and not infringe upon citizens' rights during deferment procedures, highlighting the need for a more efficient and transparent system.
