A sailor from Odesa region deserted his unit for the second time to avoid service in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The court considered his prior conviction as an aggravating factor, for which he received a prison sentence.

Details of the Case
A sailor from the town of Rozdilna in Odesa region had already been punished for desertion with a service restriction. However, the man deserted for the second time to avoid service. A new case was opened against him, which was examined in the Primorsky District Court of Odesa.
What the Court Decided
The defendant was found guilty under Article 407 Part 5 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (desertion). The court sentenced him to 5 years and 1 month of imprisonment.
