National Guard Officer Brutally Beat Subordinates: One Had an Organ Removed.
The deputy commander of the automotive battalion, who served under contract in a National Guard military unit, brutally beat two subordinates. One of the victims had an organ removed after the beating.
This is stated in the verdict issued by the Poltava District Court of the Poltava Region on July 29.
Case Details
According to the court materials, in March 2021, the defendant struck a subordinate in the chest with his fist because he arrived late when summoned. On the same day, he kicked another soldier in the torso. The victim suffered abdominal injuries with a ruptured spleen and internal bleeding. The spleen had to be removed. After these incidents, the offender was detained for a while, then released under house arrest, but in September of the same year, the man committed a new offense: he beat a police officer, resulting in moderate injuries to the officer.
In December 2021, the defendant was sentenced to four years and three months in prison for beating subordinates. The accused admitted only to having beaten the soldier whose spleen was removed as a result, while denying the beating of the other soldier.
In March 2022, the preventive measure for the deputy commander was changed. He was released from detention under personal obligation. This decision was made by the court so that the military could contribute to the defense of the Homeland. In mid-February, the defendant was again taken into custody as he drove drunk and caused an accident, which injured his wife.
Court Decision
During the new court hearing, the defendant no longer denied that he had beaten both subordinates. The man was sentenced to seven years in prison, but he had already served three years of this term while in detention during the pre-trial investigation. The court's verdict can be appealed within 30 days from the day of its proclamation.
The verdict of the Poltava District Court established that the deputy commander of the automotive battalion had beaten subordinates twice - one with serious injuries that even required organ removal. After the offenses committed by the serviceman, the court's verdict was changed, and the man received a seven-year sentence, but he had already served one and a half years in detention. His actions were classified as violence and led to serious injuries to his subordinates, whom he was supposed to protect and command.
