Demanded 300 thousand dollars in bribes - an SBU official will be tried.
A staff member of the Security Service of Ukraine is to appear in court after being caught demanding bribes in 2024. His unexposed actions cost him 300 thousand dollars.
Attempt to demand a bribe
In 2024, the Main Directorate of Internal Security of the SBU investigated a case involving one of the officials who demanded a bribe of 300 thousand dollars. The man offered his participation in a scheme for 'draft dodgers' and promised to help stop the criminal proceedings. However, he was exposed during the transfer of money.
'This criminal case was later transferred to the investigators of the State Bureau of Investigation and, given the large amount of the bribe, to the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine,' the press service reported.
The case was sent to court, and the suspect was charged with receiving illegal benefits. He faces up to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property.
It should be noted that on July 22, the pre-trial investigation into the case of the SBU official who demanded a bribe was completed. Earlier, the SBU uncovered a Russian agent in the NABU who transmitted information to Viktor Yanukovych's deputy head of security.
This news describes a case of bribery demand by an employee of the Security Service of Ukraine who was caught red-handed. The case has been sent to court, and the accused faces a serious prison term. The events show that anti-corruption agencies in Ukraine continue to fight corruption even among their own ranks.
