The Russian authorities are considering the possibility of blocking WhatsApp in the country because the messenger does not cooperate with Russian law enforcement agencies. This was reported by the deputies of the head of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy, Information Technology and Communications, Oleg Matveychev and Andrey Svintsov.

One of the politicians believes that WhatsApp is used by extremist and terrorist organizations, so a way needs to be found to cooperate with this messenger. He also emphasized that other popular messengers, such as Viber and Telegram, cooperate better with Russian law enforcement agencies. But this does not mean that Russia is isolating itself from the world; it is simply watching over its security.

It should be noted that of all the services of the Meta corporation, WhatsApp is the only one that has not yet been blocked in Russia. The ban has been approved for Facebook and Instagram by the decision of the Attorney General's Office.

It is also worth noting that in Russia, YouTube traffic has decreased to 20% of its normal level. This may be related to the blocking of the video hosting, as reported by the organization 'Society for the Protection of the Internet'.

All these actions by Russia are related to the fact that foreign technology companies refuse to comply with the requests of law enforcement agencies and do not adhere to Russian legislation.
