From July 1, fishermen face fines: Ukrainians have been given a strict limit.
Starting from July 1, 2025, Ukraine will allow crayfish fishing after a seven-month ban. Now, fishermen will have the opportunity to catch up to 30 crayfish per day per person, but with the aim of preserving the population of these aquatic creatures.
It is important to remember that violating the ban on crayfish fishing may result in a fine or even criminal liability if harm is done to the ecosystem. Compensation is also foreseen for each illegally caught crayfish.
Fishing rules in Ukraine
Ukraine has certain rules regulating fishing for citizens and foreigners. There are exceptions where free fishing is allowed for certain categories of citizens, such as children, disabled persons, and participants in the Chernobyl disaster cleanup.
Fishing is allowed in public waters both from the shore and from a boat, but no more than five hooks may be used. In paid waters, only members of fishing organizations are allowed to fish, also with a restriction on the number of hooks.
As of July 1, 2025, Ukraine will allow crayfish fishing, limiting the number per day per person, and maintaining fishing rules for citizens and foreigners in water bodies.
