125 accidents in Odesa region in six months: how to avoid danger during work near power lines

During the first six months of 2025, energy workers from DTEK recorded 125 incidents of damage to energy facilities in the Odesa region. All these incidents occurred due to violations of electrical safety rules by people.

The press service of DTEK Odesa Electric Networks confirmed these statistical data.

Damaged facilities

Among the 125 damaged energy system facilities in 2025, the most common are knocked down poles and damaged cables. These accidents not only pose a danger to people's lives but can also lead to power outages for hundreds of consumers.

Such accidents often occur as a result of heavy or agricultural work near power lines.

How to avoid danger

To avoid accidents and dangers on power lines, DTEK employees have several recommendations:

  • do not perform work in the safety zone of power lines;
  • avoid bringing equipment close to electrical wires;
  • if the equipment touches the wire — stay in the cabin until the line is disconnected from the power;
  • in case of fire, exit the equipment without touching metal parts and move away to a safe distance 'goose step' for 8-10 meters.

'We urge everyone to be careful, take care of their safety, and follow electrical safety rules,' the representatives of DTEK call in the message.

The statistics on damage to energy facilities in 2025 in the Odesa region indicate the need to comply with electrical safety rules. Violations of these rules can cause serious accidents and losses of life and property. DTEK urges all citizens to be attentive and careful, adhering to the established norms and recommendations to prevent dangers at energy facilities.
