Power Supply Restored at ZNPP After Latest Outage

According to Espreso.tv: External electricity has been reconnected to the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) following a 15-hour disruption—marking the 18th time the facility has lost power since the war began. The blackout was triggered by an attack on the Zaporizhzhia Thermal Power Plant (TPP) on June 4. While a local ceasefire near the ZNPP took effect on June 5, ongoing hostilities continue to destabilize the region.

Occupation and Its Fallout

Russian forces seized control of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant in early March 2022. Since the occupation began, the plant has repeatedly lost its external power supply due to active combat. For instance, a drone struck the ZNPP’s external radiation monitoring lab on May 4, 2026. Later, on the night of June 3, 2026, the facility experienced its 17th blackout.

“This was the 18th loss of external power supply,” noted Rafael Grossi.

The situation at the ZNPP remains tense, and future actions could significantly impact the safety of this nuclear site.

Restoring electricity to the ZNPP is critical for maintaining the safety of the nuclear installation, as power interruptions can lead to severe consequences. The persistent blackouts during wartime highlight the region's instability and the risks tied to the plant's occupation. The threat of further attacks persists, endangering not only the ZNPP but also surrounding areas.
