According to TSN.ua: UVB-76, the enigmatic shortwave radio station also known as 'The Buzzer' or a 'Numbers Station,' captured listeners' attention on January 28th and 29th, 2023. During these broadcasts on its long-standing frequency of 4625 kHz, it transmitted coded messages containing the Russian words for 'weakness' and 'standing.' This station has been active since the 1970s, and its purpose has never been officially confirmed.
The first transmission occurred on January 28th at 15:53 Moscow Time, relaying the word 'weakness.' The following day, January 29th, at 11:57, UVB-76 was active again, broadcasting the word 'standing' in a similar coded format. This second message also included the names Semyon, Tatyana, Olga, Yakov, and Konstantin. Exactly twenty minutes after the 'standing' broadcast, the station transmitted another message featuring the words 'dernolord' and 'payanie' (soldering).
Leading Theories on UVB-76's Purpose
The primary theories regarding the station's function include:
- Being part of the 'Perimeter' nuclear command system (known in the West as 'Dead Hand');
