Hotels in Zatoka, Odesa Region Will Not Be Closed — OVA Comment

Closing hotels in Zatoka to prevent the loss of life makes no sense, as many vacationers are residents of neighboring settlements. Their owners along the Zatoka shoreline are not held responsible for tragedies at sea due to mine danger.

This was reported by Novyny.LIVE during a briefing by the head of the Odesa OVA, Oleg Kiper.

Why Hotels Are Not Being Closed

Closing hotels along the Zatoka coastline does not guarantee that there will be no people on the beaches after that. A significant portion of vacationers are not tourists, but residents of neighboring settlements.

'If a person is on a prohibited beach near a hotel, it doesn’t mean that they reside in it. There are people from neighboring settlements and local residents. Closing hotels or sanatoriums does not mean that there won't be people there. People must consciously take responsibility for their personal safety.'
— says Alexander Kharov, the first deputy head of the Odesa OVA.

Alexander Kharov also added that the police and local authorities regularly conduct preventive measures with hotel owners, but many vacationers themselves go swimming in dangerous zones.

Hotels Bear No Responsibility

Moreover, hotel owners along the Zatoka coastline in the Odesa region cannot be punished for inviting tourists to relax, as they provide rental services, not a beach or sea.

'There is no criminal or administrative responsibility for this. They are offering a bed, not swimming in the sea, a beach, or anything related to water.'
— says the head of the Odesa OVA, Oleg Kiper.

Oleg Kiper also added that inspections of beaches are still ongoing and urged people to use only those that meet all safety requirements. The head of the Odesa OVA emphasized that it is physically impossible to monitor 400 kilometers of coastline, so people must take care of their lives and health themselves.

Explosions in Odesa Region

On August 10, two tragedies occurred at sea in the Odesa region. In the Karolino-Buhaz community, an explosion occurred during swimming, resulting in the death of a man. Another fatal incident happened in Zatoka — a woman and a man lost their lives there.

The western coast of Ukraine, particularly Zatoka, is known for its popularity among vacationers. Despite some risks and restrictions, hotels and sanatoriums continue to accept vacationers but emphasize the importance of adhering to safe rules and individual responsibility for personal safety. Authorities conduct preventive measures but stress the importance of self-support and caution for every citizen on the coastline.
