British journalist on Kyiv: The only capital in the world where New Year is welcomed in silence.
According to ТСН: Kyiv is the only capital in the world where New Year comes in silence. While other countries celebrate with fireworks, Ukrainians only hear the sound of drones.
Address from the British journalist
British journalist Keolan Robertson, who has been working in Ukraine since 2022, recorded a video from Khreshchatyk, where he met the New Year 2026 alone. He showed his foreign audience that there is no one to celebrate in Ukrainian cities.
“When your city lights up at night, remember that Ukraine must remain in darkness, and that it is not normal and should never become the norm… This country is bright in its people, in its life, in the way it does things. And one day these streets will be loud again, not from sirens, but from music, laughter, and joy,” noted Robertson.
The importance of remembering Ukraine
The journalist emphasized that the main reason for this state of affairs is one thing that should never be forgotten.
“Wherever you are in the world — whether with family by the fireplace, scrolling TikTok in bed, or at a party you regret going to — remember Ukraine and that this is the only capital in the world that looks like this right now. And most importantly — remember who caused this,” concluded the media worker.
Moreover, in Kyiv on the evening of December 31, on the eve of the New Year, an air raid alert was declared due to the threat of hostile drones. A powerful explosion was heard on the right bank.
The center of Kyiv, which is traditionally a place of celebrations, looked completely different this year. Explosions and air raid alerts against the backdrop of the holiday remind of the hardships faced by Ukrainians. Thus, calls from journalists like Keolan Robertson only underscore the importance of international support and understanding of the ongoing situation in Ukraine.
