2026 Rules for Paying Underage Workers

According to Novyny.live: Ukraine's State Labor Service has outlined the compensation conditions for minor employees in 2026. The focus is on reduced working hours and a minimum wage set at 8,647 hryvnias per month, or 52 hryvnias per hour.

Work Regulations for Minors

Under the updated rules, workers aged 16 to 18 can work up to 36 hours per week. Students who have turned 14 are also covered, but they may only work during school holidays and for a maximum of 24 hours per week. For minors aged 15 to 16, the same 24-hour weekly limit applies, and written parental consent is required before they can be hired.

Citizens who have reached 16 can now be formally employed. Hiring minors as young as 14 is possible, but only if they are still enrolled in school and the job does not harm their health. These changes aim to protect the rights of young workers and create safe labor conditions for youth in Ukraine.

Introducing new work conditions for underage employees marks a significant step in safeguarding the rights of young people in the labor market.

These measures are designed to strike a balance between giving teenagers work experience and protecting their health and education. With the minimum wage also rising, this could encourage more young people to enter the workforce while ensuring their safety and legal protections. Such initiatives may have a positive impact on the socio-economic situation of Ukrainian youth.
