Zelenskyy Gives Lukashenko a One-Week Ultimatum: Belarus Aids Russian Strikes on Ukraine.
Statement from Ukraine's President
According to Novyny.live: On June 20, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that equipment on Belarusian soil is helping Russia carry out attacks on Ukrainian cities. He reported that four signal repeaters, operating in support of the Russian military, have been identified in the Gomel and Brest regions of Belarus.
Zelenskyy noted that strikes enabled by this hardware are hitting several Ukrainian regions, including:
- Zhytomyr Oblast
- Rivne Oblast
- Volyn Oblast
The Ukrainian leader stressed that Belarus's actions are not bringing peace closer but are instead helping Russia adapt to mounting pressure.
Furthermore, President Zelenskyy gave Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko a one-week deadline to dismantle the equipment used to facilitate Russian military operations. Notably, recent data shows that Belarusian gasoline supplies to Russia surged 13-fold in January–May 2023 compared to the same period in 2022, while diesel fuel deliveries tripled during that timeframe.
Fuel Supply Situation
Together, the repeater installations and fuel shipments point to Belarus's active role in supporting Russia's military campaigns against Ukraine.
The Ukrainian President’s statement underscores the critical importance of international security and regional stability.
Belarus's involvement in backing Russia could have serious implications for the security of neighboring countries and for Ukraine-Belarus relations. As tensions rise, it is essential for the international community to address these developments and take steps to prevent further escalation of the conflict.
