Ukraine's Zelenskyy Orders Fedorov and Kryvonozhko to Overhaul Shahed Drone Defense.
President Zelenskyy's Directive
According to UATV: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has issued an order to Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov and Air Force Commander Anatolii Kryvonozhko to fundamentally overhaul the system for countering Russian 'Shahed' drones. This directive was issued following a meeting held on January 19. The move comes as these Iranian-designed loitering munitions have become a persistent threat to Ukrainian infrastructure and civilian areas.
During the meeting, the supply of interceptor drones was also discussed. Minister Fedorov briefed the President on the delivery volumes of these drones and the current operational data regarding the downing of Russian drones. This indicates a significant intensification of Ukraine's efforts to counter the enemy's unmanned aerial vehicles.
Strategic Overhaul and National Security
This January 19 session was a follow-up to a previous meeting on December 26, which also focused on national security and defense issues. Transforming the strategy against Shahed drones is a critical step for strengthening Ukraine's defensive capabilities amid escalating threats from Russia.
President Zelenskyy's decision to revamp the anti-drone system underscores the urgency and critical nature of defense priorities in Ukraine. Given the heightened intensity on the front lines, particularly the increased use of enemy drones, such measures could substantially improve the effectiveness of defensive operations. The procurement of new interceptor drones further demonstrates Ukraine's commitment to adapting to modern threats and enhancing its defensive potential.
