Zelensky: Kursk has become a symbol of the collapse of Putin's regime.
Meeting of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief's Headquarters and meeting with the US Senate delegation
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a meeting of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief's Headquarters and met with a US Senate delegation on August 12, 2024. In his evening address, he spoke about the key moments of these meetings.
Situation on the front line and operational actions in the Kursk region
According to Zelenskyy, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi, reported on the situation on the front line and the operation in the Kursk region of Russia. Ukrainian troops currently control about 1000 square kilometers of territory in the Kursk region.
The President explained that these actions are aimed at protecting the Sumy region from shelling. Since June 1, nearly 2100 shellings have been carried out from the territory of the Russian Federation on Sumy.
Return of prisoners and obtaining permits for the use of long-range weapons
The meeting also discussed the return of Ukrainian prisoners and the need to obtain permits from partners for the use of long-range weapons.
Meeting with the US Senate delegation
Zelenskyy held a meeting with the US Senate delegation, thanked them for their support, and discussed Ukraine's needs to end the war.
Historical parallels and the end of the war
At the end of his address, the President drew a historical parallel between the beginning and the end of Putin’s rule, linking them to Kursk:
"We see how Russia under Putin is actually moving. 24 years ago there was the Kursk disaster - a symbolic beginning of his rule. And now it is clear what is the end for him - and also Kursk, the disaster of his war. This always happens to those who despise people and any rules. Russia brought war to others, now it is returning home".
Zelenskyy concluded his address with the words: "Ukraine has always wanted only peace and we will definitely ensure peace".
