Assault on Fellow Soldiers Could Land Perpetrators Up to 10 Years in Prison, Ukraine’s State Bureau of Investigation Says.

According to Espreso.tv: Ukraine's State Bureau of Investigation (DBR) has opened a probe into the brutal beating of two servicemen by their comrades in May 2026. The attack, reportedly triggered by disciplinary violations, left one victim with a traumatic brain injury and a broken nose, while the other was unlawfully held for nearly a full day. The suspects now face charges under Article 127, Part 2, and Article 406, Part 3 of Ukraine’s Criminal Code, which carry a maximum penalty of a decade behind bars.

These cases have drawn significant public attention as Ukraine continues to fight Russia's invasion, highlighting internal discipline challenges within the armed forces.

General-Major Oleksandr Syrskyi condemned the assault as 'a disgrace that must never happen in the military, especially during wartime.'

Separate Investigation Targets Regiment 'Skelya'

In a related development, DBR is also looking into allegations of violence and fatalities among mobilized troops in the 425th Separate Assault Regiment, known as 'Skelya'. An investigative report published on June 23, 2023 brought to light troubling conditions in the unit. As a result, the regiment’s commander, Yuriy Harkaviy, was removed from his post. On July 11, 2023, the Pechersk District Court in Kyiv ruled on a pre‑trial detention measure for a soldier involved in the alleged abuses.

The back‑to‑back incidents underscore serious problems with discipline and service conditions that require urgent action from military leadership and law enforcement. Violence and breaches of discipline can erode morale and combat effectiveness, making the command’s response critical to maintaining order in the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
