Putin’s Ultimatum to Kyiv: What Russia Demands for Ending the War.
Ukrainian President’s Statement
According to UATV: In a recent interview with Reuters, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy revealed that Moscow is demanding an immediate and unconditional end to hostilities, requiring Ukraine to pull its forces out of the Donbas region. Specifically, Russia insists on the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts.
Zelenskyy also highlighted the heavy toll on Russian forces, estimating monthly losses between 28,000 and 35,000 soldiers. He suggested that over time, Russia could lose anywhere from 300,000 to one million troops. This context underscores the immense human cost of the ongoing conflict, which has now stretched into its third year.
“They understand — and we understand — how much time they need to seize this territory, with losses of 28, 30, 35 thousand soldiers per month.”

Additionally, the Ukrainian leader addressed the United States’ position, which has tied security guarantees for Ukraine to the withdrawal of its forces from the Donbas. Zelenskyy emphasized Ukraine’s commitment to dialogue: “Ukrainians take negotiations seriously. We believe it’s necessary to talk — ideally at the leadership level — and we are ready for that.”
He also dismissed Russian propaganda, noting: “We know exactly this Russian rhetoric: ‘There’s nothing to fight for. Six thousand square kilometers.’”
These remarks highlight the complex situation Ukraine faces amid the war with Russia, as well as the critical role of diplomacy in achieving peace. With mounting Russian pressure and the need for continued support from international partners, including the United States, Ukraine is seeking ways to de-escalate the conflict while preserving its territorial integrity and sovereignty.
