Zelenskyy sets Easter ceasefire as a condition for compromise with Russia.
Ukrainian President's Statement
According to UATV: On March 30, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced Ukraine's willingness to implement a ceasefire during Easter and explore other formats to end the war with Russia. In his address, he stressed that any compromises would only be acceptable if the country's sovereignty remains intact. This announcement followed discussions with Middle Eastern partners, particularly Qatar, regarding potential avenues for a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
Zelenskyy emphasized that Ukraine is open to various compromises, but made it clear that these cannot come at the expense of the nation's dignity or independence.
'We have supported any formats for ending the war. But only when you do not lose the dignity and independence of our state,' the president underscored.
He further clarified that the ceasefire offer could take effect if Russia ceases attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure. 'If Russia is ready not to strike Ukraine's energy sector—we will not retaliate against theirs,' Zelenskyy stated.
Hopes for Peace
Through this statement, the Ukrainian president expressed optimism about achieving peace and stability in the region, while reiterating the critical importance of preserving national sovereignty throughout any negotiation process.
Zelenskyy's remarks highlight Ukraine's commitment to a diplomatic resolution of the conflict, potentially marking a significant step toward restoring regional stability. The willingness to compromise—provided sovereignty is safeguarded—demonstrates that Ukraine will not make concessions that threaten its independence. Continued talks with international partners like Qatar could unlock new pathways for peace and help de-escalate tensions in the region.
