Mutual Interests in Focus: Ukraine Has Drone Expertise Israel Needs, Zelensky Says.
Defense Collaboration Between Ukraine and Israel
According to Novyny.live: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has highlighted the growing defense ties between Kyiv and Tel Aviv, pointing to a shared interest in countering drone threats. In an interview with Axios, he emphasized that both nations are actively cooperating on security matters, particularly regarding Iranian unmanned aerial vehicles.
Israel has specifically requested Ukraine’s assistance in transferring technology and tactical knowledge for downing drones, especially Iranian-made Shahed models. This request marks a significant step in bilateral security cooperation. Zelensky noted the reciprocal nature of the relationship, stating,
“We have what he needs, and he has what we need”— underscoring the mutual benefits of this partnership.
Geopolitical Challenges
However, this collaboration has not gone unnoticed by Tehran. Iran has threatened to strike Ukraine if it provides military support to Israel, highlighting the volatile regional dynamics at play. Zelensky also commented on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s stance toward Russia, a factor that could shape future cooperation between the two countries amid escalating threats.
Strengthening defense ties between Ukraine and Israel could have major implications for both nations’ security, especially in countering Iranian aggression. Sharing expertise in drone interception technologies may improve defensive capabilities and reduce the risk of aerial attacks. At the same time, Iran’s warnings underscore the persistent geopolitical tensions in the region, where any military collaboration could provoke a response from Tehran. This calls for careful diplomacy from both Kyiv and Tel Aviv.
