Volodymyr Zelensky’s Growing Concerns
According to Novyny.live: In an address to the European Council on March 19, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky voiced serious worries about the potential weakening of sanctions against Russia, delays in European Union assistance, and the looming threat of an air defense shortfall. According to the president, these factors could significantly strengthen Moscow’s hand in future talks.
Zelensky pointed out that the EU is stalling on its 20th sanctions package against Russia, a delay that could undermine pressure on the aggressor. Additionally, a €90 billion financial support package for Ukraine remains blocked—funds he described as essential for saving lives.
“This is a resource for protecting lives,” Zelensky stated.
Strengthening Ties with International Allies
On March 17, 2023, the Ukrainian president met with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, underscoring Kyiv’s ongoing efforts to deepen cooperation with global partners amid Russia’s continued aggression. Zelensky emphasized that sanctions against Russia are vital for sustaining pressure and compelling the Kremlin to pursue genuine peace.
“It could keep up the pressure on Russia, forcing it to move toward real peace,” the president added.
As a result, the issues of sanctions and financial aid for Ukraine remain at the forefront, with their resolution being critically important for the region’s long-term stability. Delays in approving new sanctions and funding packages could severely impact Ukraine’s ability to resist aggression and maintain its defense capabilities.
