Russia initiated its winter campaign with a mass strike on December 6. During these assaults, Ukrainian defenses destroyed over 700 targets, which included more than 50 missiles. In total, Russia launched over 700 missiles of various types over the winter months. This sustained bombardment tested the limits of Ukraine's air defenses and civilian infrastructure.
