Zelenskyy: Ukraine Can Halt Russian Warships Near Greenland, Criticizes Europe's Defense.
Ukrainian President Criticizes Europe's Defense Posture
According to TSN.ua: Speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos on January 22, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy criticized European nations for insufficient focus on their own defense and offered Ukraine's assistance in countering Russian naval activity near Greenland. He stressed that European countries have failed to meet necessary standards in military preparedness. This critique comes as Ukraine, defending itself against a full-scale Russian invasion, has gained significant battlefield experience.
Zelenskyy pointed out that Europe has deployed only 30 to 40 troops to Greenland, a number he deems inadequate for regional security. He emphasized that most nations did not even attempt to reach a target of spending 5% of their GDP on defense.

He further argued that a force of 30 or 40 soldiers is incapable of protecting anything from Russia or China.

In this context, Zelenskyy proposed that Ukraine possesses the expertise and weaponry to challenge Russian warships. "If Russian warships are operating freely around Greenland, Ukraine can help," he stated.
The President added that if Ukraine were a member of the Alliance, the issue with Russian vessels would already be resolved. He underscored the urgency of strengthening Europe's defensive capabilities and reiterated Ukraine's readiness to contribute to that effort.
The Growing Relevance of European Military Readiness
President Zelenskyy's remarks highlight the escalating security concerns in Europe, particularly amid increasing aggression from Russia and China. The issue of inadequate military preparedness among European states is becoming more pressing, emphasizing the need to fortify the continent's defenses.
Ukraine's offer to collaborate on regional security also signals Kyiv's ambition to play a more active role in international security affairs and to deepen its ties with European nations, leveraging the hard-earned expertise from its ongoing war.
