Tragedy in Kyiv

On the night of August 28, a terrible tragedy occurred in Kyiv: Russian military forces struck the city, claiming the lives of 23 people. The fate of another 8 individuals remains uncertain, while 53 people were injured. This was reported by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in the FREEДOM program.

Gratitude to rescuers

Zelensky expressed gratitude to rescuers, police officers, doctors, and nurses for their quick and professional assistance to the victims.

Reaction to aggression

'Russia must answer for this strike, as well as for all other strikes against our state, against our people, and against all attempts at peace to end this war. When instead of diplomacy, Russia chooses ballistics, continues to modernize 'Shaheds' for killings, and develops cooperation with entities like North Korea, it means that the world must respond accordingly,' emphasized Zelensky.

The president stressed the need for tough sanctions and pressure on Russia to ensure that its crimes do not go unpunished.

'Russia understands only strength, and manifestations of strength are needed now. The United States, Europe, and the G20 countries possess this strength,' the president noted.

Situation in the city

Let us remind that on August 28, Russian forces attacked Kyiv using missiles and drones, resulting in a warning that lasted for over 11 hours. As a result, about 100 objects were hit, with severe damage to 20 locations in seven districts of the city. In particular, in the Darnytskyi district, the entrance of a five-story building collapsed.

This tragedy reminds us of the duration of the conflict in Ukraine and its scale. The strike on the capital is yet another evidence of the danger facing the civilian population and underscores the importance of international support in countering aggression. Currently, Ukrainian citizens continue to await an adequate response from the global community to these events, as the stability and security of the country depend on the collective actions of international partners.
