Zelensky revealed details of peace negotiations: what is the US plan and when to expect a ceasefire.
According to ТСН: The United States aims to end the war in Ukraine as soon as possible, but specific timelines have not been announced. Donald Trump might want to have a 'complete understanding' regarding the final agreement by Christmas.
This was stated by the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, during a press conference. He emphasized that for Ukraine, the outcome is more important than the speed of reaching a peace deal.
“There were no specific ultimatum frameworks or dates. That everyone wants to finish as soon as possible is a fact. The US wants to finish quickly — we hear that from them. I think they really wanted, and maybe still want, to have a complete understanding of where we stand with this agreement by Christmas. The result is important for us. Of course, we would like it to be earlier, but the result is important for us,” Zelensky noted.
When will the ceasefire take place
The president also spoke about the position of the United States after their negotiations with Russia regarding a possible complete ceasefire. In his opinion, the US believes that a complete 'ceasefire' is possible only if a framework agreement is signed.
“It is no secret that the Russians will not go for a 'ceasefire' if there is no agreement. Our position has not changed — we believe that a 'ceasefire' is needed. But we are receiving this information: the only option for a 'ceasefire' is signing a framework agreement,” Zelensky explained.
Are there plans for an energy ceasefire
Zelensky confirmed that Turkey has been working on a separate plan for an energy ceasefire.
“Erdogan told me about it. I said that we support it. He wanted to organize a corresponding meeting — first at the level of teams, and then at the level of leaders. I told him that we are ready,” Zelensky noted.
The president also expressed his opinion on how the US assesses the possibility of signing a peace plan.
“The United States today believes that we are close to an agreement, let's do it — and there will immediately be a 'ceasefire' everywhere, and then we will start various other steps. This is the position of the Americans today. As I understand it, the 'Russians' have just told them that we will not give any ceasefire if there is no agreement signed,” the head of state summarized.
Zelensky added that the updated American peace plan is 'better' because it removed the requirement to change the Constitution of Ukraine. However, according to journalists, this is just a change of tactics: Washington assures Moscow that it will not allow Kyiv to join the Alliance.
It was also reported that US President Donald Trump will not abandon the peace negotiations regarding the war between Russia and Ukraine, as his participation in the process is beneficial for Washington.
Ending the war in Ukraine is critically important for both the Ukrainian people and the international community. The duration and nature of the negotiations, as well as the position of major players such as the US and Turkey, can significantly influence the future steps in this complex process.
