Zelensky spoke about the successes of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Kursk region.
President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that Ukrainian forces control more than 1250 square kilometers of territory and 92 settlements in the Kursk region of Russia. He provided this information during a meeting with the heads of foreign diplomatic missions on August 19, 2024.
According to Zelensky's statement, the positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in these territories are being strengthened, certain areas are being stabilized, and the exchange fund for the release of Ukrainian prisoners is being replenished.
"Overall, this operation has become our largest investment in the process of liberating Ukrainians from Russian captivity - we have already freed the largest number of Russian prisoners in a single operation, and this is a significant result, and this is one of our goals, and we continue to act," the President emphasized.
He also noted that currently, the Russian border opposite the Sumy region of Ukraine has been largely cleared of the presence of the Russian army, which was one of the tactical goals of the operation.
Zelensky emphasized that active, preventive defense is the most effective counteraction to Russian terror and the creation of a difficult situation for the aggressor state.
