Zelensky had a conversation with Modi: what the leaders agreed on before the SCO summit.
According to FREEДOM:
Phone conversation between Zelensky and Modi
On August 30, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky held a phone conversation with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The leaders discussed their positions ahead of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit and agreed on further development of bilateral relations, in particular, on preparations for exchanging visits.
Negotiations with Trump
Zelensky shared with Modi information about recent two-day negotiations with US President Donald Trump in Washington, where European leaders were also present.
“It was a productive, important conversation, a shared vision of partners on how to achieve real peace. Ukraine confirmed that it is ready to meet with the Russian leader,” the president noted.
Signals from Russia
Zelensky emphasized that nearly two weeks have passed since the negotiations in Washington, but Russia has not made any positive steps towards diplomacy.
“Almost two weeks have passed, and during this time, when Russia was supposed to prepare for diplomacy, Moscow did not send a single positive signal — only cynically attacked civilian facilities and killed dozens of our people. I thank the Prime Minister for his words of condolence to the families of the deceased,” Volodymyr Zelensky reported.
Negotiations at the SCO summit
The leaders also coordinated their positions ahead of the SCO summit. Zelensky emphasized that the end of the war must begin with an unconditional ceasefire. This is a necessary condition for further peace talks.
“Ending this war must start with an unconditional ceasefire, with necessary silence. This position is understood and supported by all. It is impossible to have substantive discussions about peace when our cities and communities are under constant fire. India is ready to make the necessary efforts and send the appropriate signal to Russia and other leaders during meetings in the summit's corridors,” Zelensky emphasized.
Cooperation between Ukraine and India
In addition, the presidents discussed the prospects for bilateral relations, preparations for exchanging visits, and the meeting of the joint intergovernmental commission. Zelensky expressed confidence in the significant potential for cooperation between the countries and noted that he is looking forward to meeting with the Prime Minister of India soon.
Upcoming SCO summit
Let us remind you that from August 31 to September 1, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit will take place in China, to which key guests, including Russian President Vladimir Putin and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, are invited.
This phone conversation underscores Ukraine's active diplomatic engagement amid the ongoing war. Discussing important topics at the international level, such as negotiations with Russia and the prospect of cooperation with India, opens new opportunities for strengthening Ukraine's position on the world stage. The SCO summit will be an important platform for enhancing international support.
