Zelensky and Stubbe called for increased pressure on Russia for peace: details of the conversation.
According to FREEДOM:
Discussion of international pressure on Russia
On August 27, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky had a phone conversation with President of Finland Alexander Stubbe. The main topic of the conversation was the coordination of efforts to establish lasting peace and strengthen international pressure on the Russian Federation. This was reported by FREEДОМ citing the President's Office.
Ukraine's security
The leaders agreed on approaches to creating a multilateral security guarantee architecture for Ukraine. Volodymyr Zelensky emphasized:
“Our teams are actively preparing the architecture of strong and multilateral security guarantees for Ukraine, everyone is involved: Europeans, Americans, and our other partners in the 'coalition of the willing.' Military commanders, defense ministers, security advisors: at different levels, we are preparing elements of future security. We are accelerating the definition of details. It is time to organize a meeting format for the leaders to determine key points and deadlines. An important direction is relations with the United States and their maximum involvement. Unfortunately, the Russians are giving negative signals regarding dialogue and the further course of events,” Zelensky emphasized.
The Head of State also noted that Russia responds only to strong pressure, expressing hope for its increase by the international community. He added that Moscow must take steps towards real diplomacy.
Comment from the President of Finland
President of Finland Alexander Stubbe, after the conversation with Volodymyr Zelensky, stated that to achieve progress in peace negotiations, pressure must be exerted on Russia:
“The plan for reliable support for Ukraine's security is being implemented. Ukraine is ready for peace, while Russia is only buying time. We must pressure Russia to sit at the negotiating table. Together with our partners, we will continue to work towards achieving a fair and strong peace,” he wrote on social media platform X.
Recall that earlier the President of Finland noted that he doubts whether Vladimir Putin has the courage to participate in a trilateral meeting.
This active communication between the Ukrainian and Finnish presidents indicates the growing support for Ukraine from international partners, as well as the urgency of security issues in the region. Seizing the moment, Kyiv continues to seek new mechanisms to ensure stability and peace, as the situation remains tense.
