Ukrainian Drones Account for 90% of Russian Losses, Zelensky Tells UK Parliament.
Volodymyr Zelensky Addresses the British Parliament
According to Novyny.live: During a speech at the UK Parliament on March 17, 2023, President Volodymyr Zelensky highlighted the decisive role of Ukrainian drones in the war against Russia, outlined plans for next-generation military tech, and reaffirmed Ukraine’s willingness to assist its allies. He stated that Ukrainian drones are responsible for 90% of Russian casualties on the battlefield.
“Right now, 90% of Russian losses on the front line are caused by our drones,” Zelensky said.
According to figures provided by Zelensky, Russia suffered over 92,000 killed and severely wounded during the winter months alone. This underscores the significant impact of Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles on the course of combat operations. Meanwhile, Ukraine is actively developing a new class of drone designed to operate in ocean environments.
“Soon we will have surface drones capable of operating in ocean conditions,” he announced.
Concerns Over Iranian Components in Russian Drones
Zelensky also raised alarms about the use of Iranian-made components in Russian drones. He noted that each Iranian drone costs around $50,000, while the missiles used to intercept them can cost up to $4 million.
“Ballistic missiles can strike targets thousands of miles away,” Zelensky remarked.
Zelensky’s official visit to London included meetings with King Charles III and Prime Minister Keir Starmer. This trip reflects Ukraine’s push to strengthen alliances and secure continued support amid the ongoing conflict with Russia. The UK has been one of Kyiv’s key backers, providing military aid and diplomatic backing since the war began.
Zelensky’s address to the British Parliament underscores the critical role of international solidarity for Ukraine during wartime. The effectiveness of Ukrainian drones has become a key factor in degrading Russian forces, while plans for new technologies signal Ukraine’s ambition to build its own military capabilities. Meetings with British leaders further cement the partnership that could prove pivotal in future operations and in safeguarding Ukraine’s security.
