Zelensky responded to calls for an immediate ceasefire without security guarantees.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that he does not want to halt fire without security guarantees, as it could result in a disaster. In his speech at the summit in London, he also noted that relations with the U.S. are more stable than immediate agreements. Zelensky dismissed the idea of justifying himself to Trump and creating a plan to salvage relations with him. The president emphasized that the fact that Russia did not comply with the ceasefire regime in 2014 convinced him of the need to maintain military strength. Zelensky also remarked on the British Prime Minister's statement regarding the creation of stabilization forces in Ukraine and declined to comment on the idea of a 'monthly truce' proposed by France and the UK.
Zelensky stated that there have been no clear contacts with Trump since the conflict, but he is ready to continue dialogue with the U.S. The president stated that he is open to ministers signing a similar agreement with the U.S. government, but he declined to comment on the format of Friday's negotiations. Zelensky also stressed that he needs more time for direct dialogue with Trump.
The Ukrainian president responded to a question about the duration of the defense against Russia's invasion. He noted that Kyiv is counting on new aid and supplies approved by former U.S. President Joe Biden. He also emphasized that stopping military aid would only benefit Putin. It is worth noting that the idea of a 'temporary truce' for Ukraine has proven unsuccessful from the perspective of Britain and France.
