Zelenskyy Forces Shutdown of Belarusian Relays Used by Russian Drones: Key Details.
Ivan Tymochko Weighs In on Belarusian Relay Stations
According to Espreso.tv: Ivan Tymochko, head of the Reserve Council of the Ukrainian Ground Forces, addressed the shutdown of Belarusian relay stations on June 22, 2023. This followed an ultimatum from Volodymyr Zelenskyy demanding the removal of four relays that Russia had been using to guide drone strikes against Ukraine.
On May 15, 2023, Zelenskyy accused Russia of trying to drag Belarus into the war, a move that prompted subsequent Ukrainian actions. By June 19, he issued an ultimatum to Lukashenko, calling for the relays to be dismantled. Three days later, on June 22, Ukrainian intelligence signaled Belarus to cease its assistance to Russian forces.
Reactions to the Situation
Ivan Tymochko noted that the relays were not dismantled. He stated:
“They are not dismantled, that's point one.”Zelenskyy, for his part, suggested that Lukashenko would need just a week to comply:
“I think a week will be enough for him to do this. If he doesn't, we will.”The Ukrainian leader also urged Belarus to “stop helping the Russians.”
This episode highlights ongoing regional tensions and Ukraine's persistent efforts to curb Russian military operations in neighboring countries. Belarus's failure to meet the ultimatum could further strain Ukraine-Belarus relations and shift the strategic balance in the area.
Observers note that such actions may provoke new responses from Ukraine, underscoring the country's continued military and diplomatic struggle to secure its safety.
