Zelenskyy Urges Western Nations to Sanction Russians Abroad and Rosatom.
A Call for New Sanctions
According to TSN.ua: In an interview with journalist Dasha Burns, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called for new sanctions against Russians with ties to Moscow who reside in the West. He criticized the inadequacy of existing measures, particularly regarding Russia's nuclear sector and the state corporation 'Rosatom'. Zelenskyy stressed that sanctions have not been applied to Russian nuclear energy, nor to individuals, their relatives, and children who live, study, or own property in Europe and the United States.
'Sanctions have not been imposed on Russian nuclear energy, on Rosatom, on people, their relatives, their children, who live in Europe, who live in the USA, who study at European universities, who own property in the States,' President Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted.
He emphasized the critical need to increase pressure on individuals connected to the Russian regime who continue to live and operate in Western nations. This appeal comes as Western allies debate further measures to cripple Russia's war effort and hold its enablers accountable.
The Situation in Donetsk Oblast
Zelenskyy also expressed strong views regarding Russians living outside Russia.
'Go the hell back to Russia. Go home. You respect no one in the States. You don't respect the rules. You don't respect democracy. You don't respect Ukraine, Europe, and so on,' he emphasized. These remarks reflect the President's growing frustration that Russians who support the war should not enjoy impunity in the West, especially amid Russia's ongoing aggression against Ukraine.
Additionally, the President referenced the situation in Donetsk Oblast, where Russian military forces have reportedly received orders to target civilians. This underscores the severity of the threat facing Ukraine and the necessity for international support through new sanctions against those who enable Russian aggression.
President Zelenskyy's statements highlight the ongoing relevance of sanctions and their impact on Russia's war against Ukraine. His call for new measures indicates a drive by Ukrainian leadership not only to intensify economic pressure on the Kremlin but also to raise international awareness of the challenges Ukraine faces. In the context of the protracted conflict, decisive action from Western countries remains crucial for supporting Ukraine and ensuring regional security.
