New Military Pay Hikes Announced by Zelensky: What Soldiers Will Earn.
Boosting Defense Financial Stability
According to Novyny.live: Ukraine is preparing to strengthen its defense financial stability and reform its Armed Forces, following an address by President Volodymyr Zelensky. The president held meetings with Prime Minister Yuliia Svyrydenko, Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov, and Finance Minister Serhiy Marchenko. Ukraine's Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi and Chief of the General Staff Hnatov also took part in these discussions.
The budget has allocated resources to increase military personnel pay. The minister stated that the minimum payment for soldiers stationed in rear areas will be 30,000 hryvnias. Meanwhile, the average payout for troops on the front line will reach approximately 300,000 hryvnias. These changes aim to improve motivation and financial support for service members operating under combat conditions.
New Contracts and Support for Service Members
New contracts for infantry soldiers are planned, with durations of 10, 14, and 24 months. The first adjustments could take effect as early as June, pending Cabinet of Ministers approval. Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed that the budget includes funds to raise military pay and expressed hope that the new measures will demonstrate their effectiveness by this summer.
It is worth noting that personnel handling classified documents are entitled to a supplement to their pay. In June 2026, Ukrainian service members will receive their May salaries along with additional combat payments. These steps underscore the state's commitment to supporting its defenders and improving the efficiency of defense spending.
The introduction of new contracts and increased military compensation reflects the Ukrainian government's focus on strengthening the country's defense capabilities amid the ongoing armed conflict. These changes are also significant because they can boost army morale and enhance troops' readiness for combat missions. The decisions made could become a key step in reforming the military sector and ensuring stability in the face of modern challenges.
