Zelensky called on Europe to participate in peace negotiations
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky emphasized that Europe's participation in future peace negotiations and maintaining a united position is crucial. He stated this on social media on December 19, 2024.
'Europe must be at the negotiating table when the time comes. Like Ukraine, the EU must start negotiations from a position of strength, and Europe's strength lies in unity,' the head of state emphasized.
President Zelensky warned against hasty decisions regarding the cessation of hostilities. 'We need coordinated efforts for lasting peace, not just a pause in hostilities, which is what Putin wants to buy time,' the President stated.
In his address, the Ukrainian leader also highlighted the upcoming role of the USA in conflict resolution: 'We all understand that in January President Trump will intensify efforts aimed at ending the war. It is up to us whether Europe will support him with a strong, united voice.'
The statement came after a meeting with European leaders in Brussels, where issues related to enhancing air defense, equipping brigades, and military support for Ukraine were discussed.
