Why Zelenskyy Is Urging the U.S. to Ramp Up Missile Production.
Ukrainian President’s Remarks
According to Espreso.tv: In a recent interview with CBS, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called for an increase in the production of antiballistic missiles in the United States. His comments come amid mounting threats from Russia. Zelenskyy stressed that current U.S. manufacturing levels for these missiles are insufficient, warning this could trigger a crisis in multiple regions around the world. He also expressed a willingness to collaborate on drone manufacturing.
The interview aired on May 31, 2026. During the conversation, Zelenskyy revealed he had sent a letter to the White House and the U.S. Congress requesting licenses to produce Patriot missiles in Ukraine. At present, the U.S. produces between 60 and 65 antiballistic missiles per month—a figure the Ukrainian leader believes is far too low.
“We need to expand production,” Zelenskyy stated.
He also signaled plans to finalize a first-of-its-kind drone deal with the United States, describing the potential partnership as “enormous—the strongest of its kind in the world.” At the same time, Ukraine is preparing a major drone agreement with the European Union.
Opportunities for Ukraine
These statements reflect Ukraine’s push to bolster its defense capabilities amid unpredictable threats and to deepen cooperation with international partners.
Scaling up antiballistic missile output and securing joint drone production agreements could significantly strengthen Ukraine’s defensive posture, especially as Russian aggression intensifies. Collaboration with both the U.S. and the EU may also unlock new avenues for technological advancement and regional security, which are critical for stability across Europe.
