President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky visited Pope Leo XIV in the Vatican, where they exchanged gifts. Zelensky presented the pontiff with an icon of the Virgin Mary holding the baby Jesus, which was painted on wood. During this meeting, the Pope spoke about Russia's war against Ukraine, emphasizing the importance of negotiations and achieving peace.

Also, as part of this audience, Pope Leo XIV presented gifts to the President of Ukraine and the First Lady, among which was a book. This continued the contacts between the Vatican and Kyiv.
